Strong Start Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers Required: Work one-on-one with a child in our early literacy program

St Basil is in need of volunteers during school hours for the Strong Start program. The program is a fun and engaging way to be involved in helping young children learn to read. Play short games and activities with children in senior kindergarten and grades 1 and 2 to help them practice their early literacy skills.

The program was designed specifically to engage volunteers with little to no previous experience working with children. The program provides training, easy to follow program manuals, and  enjoyable activities to make volunteering fun.

Interested?  Attend two, 2-hour training sessions and ensure you meet the school's volunteer policy. Check with the school office to see what is required to volunteer. Once trained, you will work with a minimum of one child for 30 minutes, twice a week for a 10-week period.  The program is flexible in that you can determine how many kids you can fit into your schedule, and the weekdays and school hours you are able to help.
